Euclid made his book, The Elements, to clean up some theories. Such as, both Eudoxus and Theatetus (they are both mathematicians) had theories, both of them had sort of been proven. So Euclid took Theatetus' and Eudoxus' theories and made people believe them, but he did have a lot of his own stuff in there too. He used a lot of other textbooks too, so although we say that Euclid invented geometry, there were other people who had come up with some of the geometric rules, but those were not really well known. I think he made this book because he wasn't happy with the mathematics the Greeks were based on in that time, and so he took all of these basics and changed them a bit, and then put them in to a 13 volume book, The Elements.
Euclid had a lot of ideas, what if the world didn’t like them and use them? If the world did not like Euclid's ideas and not accept them we would most likely not have geometry, which would mean the world would not be as far in technology or in math. The Elements contain almost all the inventions he made. For instance we would not have as modern houses without the power to measure the circumference of a circle or measure a square. For example, the circle is connected with curves. The distance between the point in the middle and the curve should be the same distance apart all the way around. Another example is the cube, a 3-D shape, which contains six squares on each side with all right angles. The world would have missed out on a lot of learning, because The Elements would not have been written and they were very popular school books in the 1900's. Someone even disguised themselves as a Muslim student to get their hands on The Elements to translate them into other languages. Also we would not have The Elements of Music. So we might not be as far in music as we are now, what would a Bach or Mozart piece be with out sharps and flats, or even without notes! Thank goodness the world accepted Euclid's ideas!
Now I will be telling you about whether or not his community did or did not support his idea. Although, I do not have proof that his community supported Euclid, I feel there is enough evidence to prove that people did support him. Because most of his ideas on geometry and his book, The Elements, are known around the world. I feel people supported him and believed in his ideas. Lets say he was living in Italy were they loved his inventions and it started to spread it all around the world. What if some countries did not like his idea? Then only half of his geometry would be existing. So since everybody liked Euclid ideas, we have geometry.
