In my research, I found out that D’Alembert discovered many different theories. D’Alembert used algebra to make a formula, which became the base that people built upon and used to measure sound. Well, you might think that he made the characters in algebra, but he did not. He took the characters of algebra and said, "This looks like I can use this for formula!" Other people applied the formula that he made and connected the algebra to sound. Now we use this formula to measure sound waves and how loud things are. Something else he did were the encyclopedia. He wrote them with Denis Diderot. The encyclopedia were about science, the arts, math, and the professions. The title of the encyclopedia was (in French) Encyclopedias ou Dictiomaire raisonne des sciences, des arts et des métier (Encyclopedia or Systematic Dictionary of the Sciences, the Arts, and the Professions). It was published in 21 volumes between 1751 and 1772. Later, 7 more volumes were added and published between 1776 and 1780. D'Alembert did more things in his life other than these two things, but these are the main things. I think D’Alembert was a great man because he made a formula to measure sound and he wrote part of the encyclopedia.
